Aim of the project

The objective of this project was to provide a detailed and up-to-date overview of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the Quebec video game industry. Led by Professor Gabrielle Trépanier-Jobin, PhD, and funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC/CRSH), the study aimed to identify key challenges, understand their manifestations in studios, and explore their root causes. The study uncovered systemic issues, workplace dynamics, and highlighted actionable areas for meaningful change.

Key components included:

  • Survey 1: 1,532 employees addressed topics such as mental health, pay equity, discrimination, harassment, and working conditions.

  • Survey 2: 57 managers from 291 studios shared their perceptions of DEI and measures implemented to diversify teams.
